2. Yes... it's a British sitcom, rooted heavily in the culture of Britain at the time. Cleese, Idle, Jones, Palin, Chapman, et al are all British. Hence the accents. Gilliam is the only exception, and he only actually appeared in Holy Grail, he was directing or animating the rest of the time.
