Is Monty Python only the original cast or do they change players out like SNL and SCTV?

If not, do you think a new crew would catch on? I thought there wasn't, but you never know. If there was a new crew and the show didn't work and got cancelled or is less popular, it might not make it mainstream. I'm sure you Brits don't see all the crap America puts on TV - LOL

  1. I THINK ITS JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WOULDN'T BE AS GREAT IF IT WASN'T THE ORIGINALS.
  2. Well seeing as theres been no new Monty Python episodes or films since 1983...NO! A new cast would never work, not only were the original 6 brilliant (Michael Palin is my hero) but I think I speak for the entire British nation when I say, we would kill anyone who tried to re-do it.
  3. one orignal cast-- they were a 'group' of players- they had worked together in various radio and tv shows since college- John Cleese & eric idle, and Graham Chapman went to cambridge and terry jones and michel palin went to Oxford
  4. The original cast had a unique chemistry that can't simply be copied or re-created by any other troupe. SCTV was the same way. And I think that's why the level of comedy with shows like SNL and MAD TV has declined so much over the years. The Pythons really knew each other well and knew each other's strengths and weaknesses, which is what enabled them to keep their writing sharp, not just for themselves but for each other. The late George Harrison always said that he thought when The Beatles broke up, their irreverence was somehow transferred to Monty Python, and I believe that's the most accurate description ever of the group. Trying to start a 'new' Python I think would be a disastrous idea.
